Citroen C3 AC Failure

My 2000 Citroen C3 diesel is driving me crazy. The air conditioning has completely given up. No cooling whatsoever, the AC doesn't even switch on, and there's a warning light from the speedometer. The error memory has flagged something, but I'm not sure what to do. Anyone experienced this?

Sounds familiar. I had a similar problem with my old Opel Astra, although it was a petrol engine. The symptoms were almost identical: AC stopped working, error codes popping up. Have you checked the refrigerant level or any of the fuses related to the AC system?

Thanks for the reply! I did a quick check of the fuses, and they seem fine. I haven't checked the refrigerant level, though. Could low refrigerant really cause all those problems, including the warning light?

Yep, low refrigerant can definitely trigger those symptoms. However, in my case with the Astra, it turned out to be a faulty AC control unit. The garage diagnosed it after checking everything else. It might be worth getting it properly diagnosed to rule out other possibilities before you start topping up refrigerant. Could save you some money in the long run.

Thanks a bunch for the advice! I took it to a workshop, and you were spot on. The problem was indeed a defective air conditioning control unit, leading to refrigerant compressor failure. The repair set me back 980€, but at least it's fixed now. I appreciate the help!
