Citroen C4 engine power loss fault code

Hey, I'm having trouble with my 2013 Citroen C4 diesel. It's got about 59000 km on the clock. Recently, I've noticed the engine power is way down, and the dashboard light is on. I plugged in a generic auto scanner, and it's showing a fault code stored in the error memory. Could this be related to some dodgy chip tuning the previous owner might have done? I'm pulling my hair out over this!

Sounds familiar. I have a Citroen C4 too. Reduced engine power and a fault code could definitely point to issues with aftermarket chip tuning. These things often mess with the car's computer and can cause all sorts of problems. Did you buy it used? Do you have the exact fault code? That would help narrow it down.

Yes, I bought it used a couple of years ago. I should have used a car diagnostic tool before. I'll check the exact fault code with a better scan tool tomorrow. Where did you experience the issue?

The issue happened to me after a so-called 'performance upgrade'. The stored error insisted on implausible values. My workshop reset the ECU, but the problem reappeared within days. Eventually, they traced it back to the modified software. The original software was flashed back in. It did cost me 180€ plus towing.
