Citroen C5 DPF Failure
Summary of the thread
The 2021 Citroen C5 diesel is experiencing severe engine power loss and excessive smoke during acceleration, likely due to a diesel particulate filter (DPF) issue. The engine light is consistently on, and attempts to regenerate the DPF have failed. The problem is suspected to be a severely clogged or defective DPF, possibly exacerbated by high mileage. The recommended solution is to have the DPF inspected and potentially replaced by a qualified workshop, which ultimately resolved the issue.

Good shout on the sensor, hadn't thought of that! Fuel consumption has gone up a bit actually, now that you mention it. The engine light is pretty constant, although I think it flickered off briefly once. Could a dodgy sensor really cause all this smoke and power loss though? I was really hoping it wouldn't come to a new DPF!

While a faulty sensor can trigger the engine light, the combination of reduced engine power and smoke upon acceleration strongly suggests the DPF itself is defective or severely clogged. Based on the high mileage and symptoms described, it's highly probable that the DPF requires replacement. I'd recommend having the vehicle inspected by a qualified workshop to confirm the diagnosis and obtain an accurate repair estimate.

Thanks for the advice. I went to the workshop and you were right, the DPF was totally shot and needed replacing! Cost me 1550€, ouch! At least it's running smoothly again now.

The symptoms you describe certainly point to a potential issue with the DPF. Have you noticed any other changes in engine behavior, such as increased fuel consumption or a rough idle? Has the engine light been triggered consistently, or does it come and go? It's possible a faulty sensor is triggering the light unnecessarily.
