Citroën C5 overheating and indicator lights: Experiences and solutions wanted
(Translated from German)
Summary of the thread
A Citroën C5 owner is experiencing issues with the car overheating, a constantly illuminated check engine light, low coolant levels, and a flashing warning light. The owner suspects the auxiliary water pump might be the cause. Another Citroën owner shared a similar experience, where a defective cable on the pump/control unit was the issue, requiring replacement and reprogramming. The suggested solution is to have the car checked by a mechanic promptly to prevent further damage.

Thanks for your quick reply! Since it seems to have affected the auxiliary water pump and the cable in your case, I almost think it could be something similar in my C5. Can you remember approximately how much this repair cost you? And have you had any other problems with it since then? Thanks in advance and best regards!

Hi, I'm glad I could help. Fortunately, my problem with the auxiliary water pump has been completely resolved since my visit to the mechanic. The repair costs amounted to around 225€. The price included replacing the defective cable on the pump and the control unit. It wasn't exactly cheap, but to be fair, there was quite a bit of work involved in the repair. Since then, my Citroën has been running like a dream again and I've had no further problems with it. I hope it goes as well for you and that your problem is fixed quickly! Greetings!

Thank you very much for your help. It's good to know that you haven't had any further problems since the repair and that reassures me a little. 225€ is not a lot, but it's still better than irreparable engine damage. I think I'll contact my garage first thing tomorrow and hope that they can solve the problem just as well as you did. Thanks again and best regards!

Hi, I drive a Citroën C4 from 2013 and have had similar symptoms to yours. In my case, the cable on the pump/control unit was actually defective. It was quite a job to fix it all. You had to remove the entire auxiliary water pump, replace the broken cable and then the control unit also had to be reprogrammed. But after that, everything worked perfectly again. In any case, it's serious enough to have it checked at the garage as soon as possible. You don't want to risk overheating the engine and end up with even more damage. Best regards!
