Citroen C6 Coolant Loss

Thanks for the tips! Air pockets are a good shout, I hadn't considered that. How would I go about checking for those? And with the water pump, is there a particular area I should be looking at for the leak? I'm not super mechanically minded, so a little more detail would be great.

Burping the system gets rid of air pockets, essentially removing trapped air from the cooling system. There are tutorials online specific to Citroens. For the water pump: look for any signs of dried coolant around the weep hole – it's a small opening on the pump housing. If it's leaking from there, the pump's seal is likely failing. I'd suggest taking it to a workshop if you're unsure; a coolant leak can lead to overheating, which is bad news for the head gasket.

Thanks! I burped the system and that didn't seem to fix it. Dropped it off at the shop, and it turned out to be a leaky water pump, just like you said. They replaced it for 52€, and the light's gone. Cheers for pointing me in the right direction!

I had a similar issue with my C6 a while back. Low coolant, engine light, the whole shebang. First thing, check for air pockets in the system. Sometimes air gets trapped and gives false readings. Also, even if you don't see any puddles, give the water pump a close inspection. They can leak without leaving much evidence if it's a slow seep. And, just to cover all bases, keep an eye on the coolant reservoir itself for cracks.
