Citroen C8 Battery Drain

I'm having a real head-scratcher with my 2010 Citroen C8 diesel. It's got about 58,000 km on the clock and recently the battery keeps draining. I'm getting an error message in the speedometer, the lights are weak and flickering, and the error memory has stored some kind of fault. Starting the engine is a struggle because the battery seems so weak. Could this be a sign of complete battery failure, or am I missing something obvious, like a parasitic draw? I checked the battery terminals, and they seem fine. Any ideas?

Summary of the thread

The 2010 Citroen C8 diesel experienced a battery drain issue, with symptoms like weak lights, flickering, and error messages. The problem was suspected to be either a complete battery failure or a parasitic draw. A suggestion was made to check the battery sensor, which is often located near the battery and can affect charging, especially in cold conditions. Upon inspection by a mechanic, the battery sensor was found to be defective and was replaced, resolving the issue.

I experienced something similar with my C8, although I do not remember the exact year. I would suggest checking the battery sensor. Are you experiencing issues only when the engine is cold? Are you using a multimeter to test the voltage of the battery while the car is off?

Thanks for the tip! Where exactly is the battery sensor located, and what am I looking for when I check it? And yes, it seems worse when the engine is cold. I haven't checked the voltage with a multimeter yet, but I will give that a try today. What kind of readings should I be expecting?

The battery sensor is usually located near the battery itself, sometimes integrated into the negative terminal. Given that the issue seems to occur more frequently with the cold engine, I would assume the battery sensor is defective. It is possible that the electrical system is not charging the battery correctly. I would advise against further troubleshooting without proper equipment and suggest going to a certified workshop as soon as possible.

Thanks so much for your help! I took it to a mechanic, and it turned out to be exactly what you said – the battery sensor was defective. They replaced it, and the problem is now solved. The repair ended up costing me 315€, but it's worth it to have the car running properly again!
