Citroen C8 preheating lamp issue

Hi, I have a 2003 Citroen C8, diesel engine, with a weird problem. The preheating lamp doesn't switch off, and the check engine light is on. When I accelerate, it smokes a bit. The car has only 25670 km on the clock. Could it be the glow plugs?

Sounds like a glow control unit issue. The symptoms you describe are common. The smoke on acceleration could be due to unburnt fuel from a cold start issue, which is related to the glow plugs not heating properly. Check the cable and plug connections to the control unit. Are they corroded or damaged?

Where exactly is the glow control unit located? And how would I check the connections?

It's usually near the engine block. Visually inspect the wires for breaks or corrosion. Unplug the connector and check for bent or corroded pins. Think of it like a fuse box; a bad connection there can cause all sorts of electrical gremlins. However, given the check engine light, a workshop visit might be needed to properly diagnose it. It could also be a faulty sensor fooling the ECU.

Thanks for the advice! It turned out to be a defective cable connection to the glow control unit, like you suspected. The repair cost me 95€.
