Citroen C8 rough running

My 2011 C8 with the gasoline engine is running rough. It's got 134,054 km on the clock. Lately, it's been a pain to start, and my fuel consumption has definitely gone up. Feels like I'm losing power, especially uphill. At idle, the engine is sputtering and sometimes just dies. I suspect a defective injection nozzle. Could a dirty injection valve be the culprit? It feels like the engine is hiccuping. Any thoughts?

Summary of the thread

A 2011 Citroen C8 is experiencing rough running, difficulty starting, increased fuel consumption, and power loss, particularly uphill. The engine sputters at idle and sometimes stalls, leading to suspicion of a defective injection nozzle or dirty injection valve. A generic 'injection fault' warning was detected, suggesting a possible injector issue. Cleaning the injector might help, but a proper diagnostic at a workshop is recommended to confirm the cause and avoid unnecessary part replacements.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Sounds familiar. I had a similar issue with my C8 – not sure of the year offhand, but same symptoms. Rough starts, poor performance... felt like I was driving with the parking brake on! Have you checked for any misfire codes? A faulty injector can definitely cause that, affecting emissions and fuel economy.

I haven't checked for misfire codes specifically, but I did scan the ECU and got a generic 'injection fault' warning. How did you pinpoint the injector as the problem on your C8? Was it a specific cylinder, or did you just replace them all? Any chance it could be something else, like a vacuum leak messing with the fuel mixture? It's like trying to solve a Rubik's cube in the dark!

In my case, the fault code pointed to a specific injector. I tried cleaning it first, but no luck. Eventually, I had to bite the bullet and replace it. Given your generic code and symptoms, it's tough to say for sure without more diagnostics. Could be other things, but injectors are a prime suspect. At this point, I'd recommend a proper diagnostic at a workshop to confirm. Don't want to start throwing parts at it.

I was hoping for a magic bullet, but a workshop visit is probably the best bet. I got a quote for replacing the injector at 515€, so I hope that fixes it.
