Citroen DS5 MAF Sensor Issue
Summary of the thread
A 2015 Citroen DS5 with a gasoline engine exhibited increased fuel consumption, occasional stalling when idling, a persistent check engine light, and smoke during acceleration, particularly uphill. These symptoms suggested a faulty mass air flow (MAF) sensor. After a mechanic confirmed the MAF sensor was the issue and replaced it, the car's performance improved significantly, resolving all the symptoms.

I did give the wiring a quick look, but I'm not sure what I'm looking for beyond obvious breaks. I didn't see anything glaringly wrong. As for performance, yes, definitely feels sluggish, especially when trying to overtake. It just doesn't seem to have the same punch it used to. Could it really be just the MAF sensor causing all this?

Given the symptoms and mileage, it's highly probable the MAF sensor is the culprit. The sluggish performance confirms it further. I'd suggest a visit to a workshop to confirm the diagnosis and get it replaced. Continuing to drive with a faulty MAF can potentially damage other components, like the catalytic converter.

Took your advice and went to the mechanic. They confirmed it was indeed the MAF sensor. The bill came to 365€ including the part and labor. Now the car runs like new. Fuel consumption is back to normal, no more stalling, no check engine light and the smoke disappeared. Thanks a lot for your help!

I had similar symptoms on my 2018 Opel Insignia. Have you checked the wiring to the MAF sensor for any damage or loose connections? Sometimes a simple visual inspection can reveal the problem. Is there any noticeable decline in overall engine performance besides the stalling and smoke?
