Citroen Nemo Electrical Issue

I'm battling a weird electrical issue on my 2015 Citroen Nemo diesel. The mileage is 196442 km. Terminal 30 seems to be getting interrupted somehow. The vehicle starts poorly, struggling to turn over like the battery is almost flat. I've checked the battery connections, and they seem solid. I also metered the voltage while cranking and it drops like a stone. Could this be a short circuit somewhere draining the battery, or maybe something up with the ignition switch not providing consistent power?

Summary of the thread

A 2015 Citroen Nemo diesel was experiencing poor starting and significant voltage drop during cranking, suggesting an electrical issue. The problem was suspected to be related to an interrupted terminal 30 supply, a potential short circuit, or an issue with the ignition switch. After suggestions to load test the battery and check the charging system, it was found that the battery was defective. Replacing the battery resolved the starting issue.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

An interrupted terminal 30 supply can definitely cause those symptoms. That continuous voltage supply is critical for many systems. The voltage drop you're seeing during cranking is suspicious. Have you load tested the battery itself? A heavily discharged or defective battery can exhibit exactly the symptoms you are describing. Also, investigate the charging system to ensure it's replenishing the battery effectively after starting. Is it supplying enough voltage?

Okay, load testing the battery makes sense. I'll get that done ASAP. Regarding the charging system, how exactly do I check if it's providing enough voltage? What's the expected range I should be looking for when the engine is running?

With the engine running, you should see around 13.8 to 14.4 volts at the battery terminals. Anything significantly lower than that points to a problem with the alternator or voltage regulator. However, given the poor starting and voltage drop during cranking, I still suspect a failing battery is the primary culprit. You should take it to a workshop.

I had the battery load tested, and you were spot on – it was toast. Replaced it and now she starts like a dream. The whole thing cost me 290€, battery included. Really appreciate the help!
