Civic Diesel Power Loss
Summary of the thread
A 2000 Honda Civic diesel experienced significant power loss and emitted smoke during acceleration, particularly noticeable when driving uphill. The suspected cause was a defective diesel particulate filter (DPF). After confirming the issue at a workshop, replacing the DPF resolved the problem, restoring the vehicle's performance.

Thanks! Before suspecting the DPF, I checked the air intake and fuel lines. I don't have the equipment for backpressure testing. Could you tell me more about your symptoms and what you did to diagnose the issue?

Okay, mine was pretty much the same. Reduced power, smoke, just like you said. Honestly, I took it straight to a workshop. I'm no expert. They told me it was the filter, and they sorted it.

Thanks for the insight. I took it to a workshop, and they confirmed the DPF was defective. Replacing it fixed the issue. The cost was as expected, but I'm relieved to have my Civic back to normal. Thanks again!

Hey, I have a similar Civic, though I'm not sure the exact year. I had some power loss and smoke too. Did you try anything before suspecting the DPF?
