Civic rough running poor fuel economy

I'm having a nightmare with my 2009 Honda Civic (gasoline engine). It's got 113k km and recently it's running like garbage. The check engine light is on, and the engine is running really rough. Feels like I've lost power, especially when accelerating, and it's jerking. Plus, I'm burning fuel like crazy! I think it might be running too rich, based on the smell and the fact that my fuel consumption has gone through the roof. I've checked the spark plugs, and they look okay, and the air filter is fairly new. Any ideas?

Sounds familiar! I had almost the exact same symptoms with my Civic. Check engine light, rough running, terrible fuel economy... It was driving me nuts. Have you looked at the air-fuel ratio? Maybe there is a problem with the injection.

Injection? Can you give me more detail? I'm not really a mechanic.

Sure, I meant fuel injection valve, or fuel injector. They might be defective. In my case, I had to take it to a workshop to get it properly diagnosed. It might be worth it for you too!
