Clio Cruise Control Failure

Cruise control stopped working on my 2005 Renault Clio diesel with 237707 km. Error message on the display, and it's completely non-functional. Error code stored, suspecting a defective cable or plug connection, maybe around the actuator. Anyone experienced anything similar?

Summary of the thread

The cruise control on a 2005 Renault Clio diesel stopped working, displaying an error message and storing an error code. The issue is suspected to be due to a defective cable or plug connection, possibly around the actuator. A similar problem was resolved by checking connections around the steering wheel and using specialized diagnostic tools to identify deeper issues, such as a faulty switch or actuator. Ultimately, professional diagnostics at a workshop identified and fixed a faulty cable.

I own a slightly newer Renault Clio and had a similar issue. The error message and non-functional cruise control point to a problem. Cruise control systems rely on inputs including wheel speed sensors, the engine control unit (ECU), and the brake pedal position to maintain the set speed. The actuator controls the throttle. Did you check the connections around the steering wheel controls? It could also be a faulty switch. Did you do any diagnostics beyond reading the error codes?

Thanks! I checked the basic connections around the steering wheel, but without disassembling anything. The error codes didn't point to a specific sensor; it was a general 'cruise control malfunction' type of code. Was your issue intermittent, or did it fail completely like mine?

Mine was a complete failure. Given the generic error code and checked connections, it's likely a deeper issue needing specialized diagnostic tools. While it could be a disconnection, a more thorough investigation involving the ECU and possibly the actuator might be needed. I suggest a qualified workshop to pinpoint the error, considering the complexity of modern car electronics.

Thanks a lot for sharing your experience and confirming the need for professional diagnostics. I appreciate the input, and I'll take it to a workshop. They fixed it for 95€. Apparently a cable was faulty.
