Clio diesel starting stalling issues

My 2003 Renault Clio diesel is giving me fits. Mileage is at 131011 km. Engine refuses to start sometimes, stalls at idle other times, and the check engine light is on. When it actually runs, it's rough, and my fuel consumption has gone up. I pulled the error codes, and everything points towards the fuel pump. I've checked the usual suspects – could it just be a dodgy cable or plug connection? What else could it be?

Whoa, sounds familiar! I had similar issues with my Clio – although I never checked the error codes. What kind of fuel are you putting into it? And have you checked the fuel filter? I just chucked some fuel cleaner into mine. Any chance that could help?

Thanks for the reply! I'm using the correct diesel fuel, of course, and the fuel filter was replaced recently. The symptoms definitely point towards fuel starvation. Before I start tearing things apart, did your Clio exhibit the same starting and stalling behavior before you added the cleaner?

YES! Precisely the same! Okay, maybe check with the workshop. In the end, I had to have the fuel pump looked at. Honestly, my skills end at basic top ups.

Appreciate the confirmation! Sounds like I'm on the right track then. Turns out it was a faulty connector at the fuel pump, just as I suspected. 95€ later, and she's running smoothly again. Thanks for sharing your experience, it helped narrow things down!
