Clio engine stalls at idle
Summary of the thread
A 2009 Renault Clio is experiencing engine stalling at idle and a check engine light is on. The issue may be related to the fuel tank ventilation valve or a clogged hose in the EVAP system. A clogged hose was confirmed as the cause, and after taking the car to a workshop, the valve was replaced, and the hoses were cleaned, resolving the problem.

I haven't specifically checked for cracks, but I visually inspected the hoses, and they seemed okay. I didn't disconnect them to check for blockages though. Where were the clogged hoses on your Astra? Was it difficult to access them, and did you need any special tools?

On my Astra, the clogged hose was near the fuel tank. Access wasn't too bad, but it was a bit fiddly. I would suggest taking it to a workshop and have them check the whole system. They will have the right tools and can perform a smoke test to pinpoint the exact location of any leaks or blockages. It could save you a lot of time and frustration.

That's great advice! I took it to a local workshop, and you were right – it was a clogged hose in the tank ventilation system. They replaced the valve and cleaned the hoses. The total repair cost was 175€. Runs like new now!

That sounds familiar! I had a similar issue with my old Opel Astra. Same symptoms: check engine light and stalling at idle. Have you checked the hoses connected to the valve for any cracks or blockages? In my case, it turned out to be a clogged hose. Is it possible that dirt is preventing the correct flow?
