Clio engine starting problem

Thanks for the quick reply! I checked the switch visually but saw nothing obvious. The engine cranks, but doesn't fire. Is there a way to test the switch definitively, perhaps with a multimeter, to confirm it is the source?

Okay, cranking but not firing does point more squarely at the clutch switch preventing the ECU from authorising ignition. Yeah, a multimeter should do the trick. You're looking for continuity when the pedal is depressed. If you're getting nothing, even with the pedal fully down, the switch is likely toast. Honestly, though, for the sake of your sanity, and based on what you've described, consider getting it looked at by a workshop. Diagnosis can be a real time sink.

Your advice was invaluable. I took it to a trusted workshop. The mechanic confirmed your suspicion: it was indeed the clutch pedal switch! The repair cost 95€, a small price to pay for restoring sanity. Many thanks!

Sounds like a nuisance! Have you checked the clutch switch itself? Sometimes they just get knocked loose or the connector gets corroded. It's worth a look before chasing more complicated gremlins. Does the engine crank at all when it refuses to start, or is it completely dead?
