Clio Hybrid Engine Light and Exhaust Smell
Summary of the thread
A 2021 Renault Clio Hybrid with 243,260 km developed issues with the check engine light, rough engine performance, and a strong exhaust smell. The problem was suspected to be related to the catalytic converter or NOx sensors. However, it was identified as a defective lambda sensor, which was confirmed and resolved by a professional, restoring smooth engine operation and eliminating the exhaust smell.

Interesting. Lambda sensor... Where is that located, and is it something I can check myself, or am I better off taking it to a shop?

I wouldn't mess with it yourself unless you really know what you're doing. It's usually near the catalytic converter. I'd suggest getting it checked out by a professional to be safe. Could save you a bigger headache down the line.

Appreciate the advice. Took it to the shop, and you were spot on – defective lambda sensor. Cost me 375€ to get it sorted, but at least the engine's running smoothly again and that awful smell is gone!

Sounds familiar! I had a similar issue with my 2018 Peugeot 308 (diesel, though). Engine light, weird smell, the whole shebang. Did you check the lambda sensor yet? That was the culprit in my case.
