Clio Increased Fuel Consumption Poor Start
Summary of the thread
A 2012 Renault Clio with a diesel engine is experiencing increased fuel consumption and poor starting. The initial suspicion was a defective throttle valve, possibly linked to a faulty accelerator pedal module. After consulting with others and visiting a workshop, it was confirmed that the accelerator pedal module was indeed faulty, and replacing it resolved the issues.

Thank you for the insight. I haven't yet looked at the air intake. Is cleaning the throttle body a complex procedure? I am worried about messing with the engine throttle.

Cleaning it might help, but the symptoms point to a defective accelerator pedal module. Had the same issue, it sent incorrect data to the engine. In your position, I'd let a workshop take a look at it.

Appreciate the advice. I took it to a workshop, and you were spot on. The accelerator pedal module was indeed faulty. Replacement cost me 205€. Runs smoothly now.

That sounds familiar. I had similar issues with my old Opel Astra. Higher fuel consumption and struggling to start. In my case it was because the throttle body was extremely dirty. Have you checked the air intake for any obstructions or unusual build-up?
