Clio Mirror Heating Fault

Hi, I've got a 2002 Renault Clio diesel with a weird problem. The mirror heating doesn't work on either side. I've checked the fuses, and they're fine. My diagnostic tool is throwing an error related to the mirror heating circuit. Feels like a defective cable or plug, but I don't want to rip the whole thing apart without a second opinion. Anyone else experienced this? The car only has 50321 km on the clock, so it feels premature for this sort of thing. Driving in the cold is a safety issue because I cannot see anything with the foggy mirrors.

Summary of the thread

A 2002 Renault Clio owner reported a problem with non-functional mirror heating on both sides, despite fuses being intact and a diagnostic tool indicating an error in the mirror heating circuit. The issue was suspected to be due to a defective cable or plug. A suggestion was made to check the voltage at the mirror connectors to determine if the problem was with the wiring or the heating elements. Ultimately, the problem was identified as a corroded connector in the door wiring, which was repaired at a cost of 95€, resolving the issue and improving safety.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Interesting. I had a similar issue with my Clio, and it drove me nuts. It's like trying to see through a frosted window when the mirrors are iced over. I never got an error code, though. Did you check the voltage at the mirror connectors themselves? If there's no voltage, the problem is upstream, probably somewhere in the wiring harness or a relay. If there is voltage, then the heating elements in both mirrors have failed simultaneously, which is unlikely but still possible.

Good shout on checking the voltage at the mirrors directly! I hadn't thought about that, been too focused on the error code. Any idea where the relay for the mirror heaters is located on the Clio? A wiring diagram would be gold.

Unfortunately, I can't pinpoint the exact relay location on your 2002 model; they do move things around from year to year. If I were you, I would visit a reputable workshop. Given the error code and the symptoms, a mechanic will quickly find the cause of the electrical fault. I really think the cost won't be too high.

Thanks for your input. I took your advice and booked it in. Turns out it was indeed a corroded connector in the door wiring, just like you suspected. Repair cost was 95€. So glad it's sorted, much safer now. Thanks again!
