Clio preheating lamp issue

Hey, I'm having a weird issue with my 2003 Renault Clio diesel. The preheating lamp just won't switch off, and the check engine light is now on too! Plus, there's this nasty smoke coming out when I accelerate. I checked the obvious stuff, but I'm not really a mechanic. Any ideas?

Sounds familiar. I had a similar problem with my old Opel Corsa. Is it possible that it's a defective cable or a plug connection on the component?

A defective cable? Where exactly should I be looking? I'm not very good with the ignition system or control unit, so I have no idea where to start looking for the defective part. Is there anything specific I should check on the car preheater?

On my Opel, it was hard to find. I would suggest going to a workshop and have them check the preheating control unit. It's probably the easiest and safest way. It cost me 95€ back then.

Thanks! I'll take it to the workshop. The mechanic found a defective cable, like you said! They replaced the control unit and now it works fine! Thanks for the help!
