CLK Air Conditioning Problem
Summary of the thread
A 2008 Mercedes CLK is experiencing an air conditioning problem, with no cooling, system activation failure, and a warning light. The initial suspicion is a faulty air conditioning control unit. However, it is suggested that the issue might be related to the refrigerant compressor, specifically the compressor relay or refrigerant pressure sensor. Checking these components with a multimeter and OBD-II scanner is recommended, but due to the complexity, consulting a technician is advised.

Thanks for the quick reply. Can you give me more detail on checking the compressor relay and refrigerant pressure sensor? What steps should I take to see if they're causing the problem?

You can use a multimeter to check the compressor relay for continuity and voltage when the air conditioning is on. For the pressure sensor, check the readings with an OBD-II scanner. Wrong values usually mean a bad sensor. Because it's complex, I'd suggest a technician to avoid damage. Air conditioning repair often needs special gear.

Thanks for the thorough advice. I'll get it checked at a good workshop, given the possible issues. Thanks for confirming the likely cause and suggesting a good way forward.

I've seen similar air conditioning problems in CLKs. Your symptoms sound like a refrigerant compressor issue. Have you checked the compressor relay and the refrigerant pressure sensor? A problem there can shut down the system and store error codes.
