CLK Diesel Camshaft Sensor Problem

My 2003 Mercedes CLK diesel has poor starting and reduced power. Diagnostics show a camshaft sensor error. I suspect a bad cable or plug. Mileage is 102117 km. Has this happened to anyone? I expect about 95€ repair cost.

I had a similar issue on my CLK. Rough idling, check engine light, and eventually, engine misfire. It felt like the engine was struggling. The camshaft sensor can cause timing issues. Have you checked for damage to the wiring harness? Is the sensor clean?

When you had this issue, were the symptoms intermittent or constant? Did the diagnostic analysis specifically identify the camshaft sensor as the only problem?

The symptoms were intermittent at first, then constant. Diagnostic pointed to the camshaft sensor. I tried cleaning the contacts, but it didn't help. A workshop confirmed the sensor was faulty and replaced it. For that price, it’s best to get it checked professionally. It's a headache you don't want.

I appreciate the feedback. I found a damaged wire to the sensor. Replacing the sensor and repairing the wiring fixed it.
