CMAX Brake Pedal Vibration

I'm experiencing a strange issue with my 2016 Ford CMAX (gasoline engine). It has around 131059 km on it. I've noticed a strange feedback from the brake pedal when I apply the brakes. It's not a grinding noise, but more of a subtle vibration. I checked the brake fluid level, and it seems okay. I also took a quick look at the brake pads through the wheels, and they appear to have some life left.

Summary of the thread

A 2016 Ford CMAX owner reported a subtle vibration in the brake pedal when applying the brakes, despite the brake fluid level and pads appearing normal. A suggestion was made to check for undervoltage, as similar symptoms in another vehicle were linked to voltage issues affecting the ABS system. Upon inspection by a mechanic, it was confirmed that the problem was due to a failing battery causing undervoltage, which was resolved by replacing the battery.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

That's a weird one. I had a similar issue with my old Opel Astra a few years back. The symptoms sound really familiar. Did you check the voltage? In my case it was caused by some undervoltage in the vehicle. It messed with the ABS system and caused strange feedback from the brakes.

Undervoltage, huh? That's not something I would have considered. How did you figure that out? And what exactly was happening with the ABS? I'm just trying to wrap my head around how low voltage could affect the brakes.

Well, the car started throwing other weird errors too - lights flickering, radio cutting out briefly, that sort of thing. Eventually, the ABS light came on. I took it to a workshop, and they diagnosed it as a faulty voltage regulator that resulted in undervoltage. The ABS system is very sensitive to voltage fluctuations. Given your symptoms, I'd recommend getting your car checked at a workshop. It might be a similar issue.

Thanks a lot for the advice! I took it to my local mechanic, and you were right – it was an undervoltage issue! It seems like the battery was on its way out, and it was causing havoc with the braking system. Cost me 240€ to get a new battery and have them check the brake system, but at least it's fixed. Really appreciate your help!
