CMAX diesel power loss and hissing sound
Summary of the thread
A 2004 Ford CMAX diesel is experiencing reduced engine power, rough running, jerking during acceleration, a hissing sound, and increased fuel consumption. Diagnostics indicate a potential issue with the intake manifold flap control, possibly due to a defective switch. It is suggested to have a professional assess the manifold flap control system to confirm the diagnosis and proceed with necessary repairs.

Could you elaborate on your experience? Did you notice any engine misfire or the engine light on? Did you resolve the issue, and if so, what was the solution?

Yes, the engine light did come on intermittently, and there were moments it felt like the engine was about to stall. I didn't attempt any repairs myself. I'd recommend having a qualified workshop assess the manifold flap control system. Better safe than sorry.

I appreciate the details and your recommendation. I'll proceed with a professional diagnostic assessment of the intake manifold flap control system. The estimated repair cost of 465€ seems reasonable.

I also drive a CMAX with a diesel engine. Your symptoms sound very familiar. I experienced similar issues: reduced power and that hissing sound. I wonder if the intake manifold flap might be the culprit in your case too?
