CMAX Engine Stalling
Summary of the thread
The 2007 Ford CMAX is experiencing engine stalling when idling, with the check engine light frequently appearing. The initial suspicion is a heavily contaminated air intake. However, it is suggested that the issue may be due to a faulty idle air control valve. After consulting with a mechanic, it is confirmed that the problem was indeed a bad idle air control valve and a gunked-up throttle body, which were repaired to resolve the stalling issue.

Yeah, engine stalling exactly! The car idle is terrible. So, you're saying it's likely the idle air control valve then? Any tips on checking it myself before throwing money at a mechanic?

Yep, definitely sounds like the idle air control valve. To be honest, I wouldn't mess with it too much yourself unless you really know what you're doing. You could end up making things worse. Best bet is probably to take it to a workshop and have them diagnose it properly.

Thanks! I took your advice and brought it in. Turns out you were spot on. Bad idle air control valve and gunked up throttle body. Cost me 425€ to fix, but at least it's running smoothly now. Appreciate the help!

Sounds like it could be your idle air control valve. Had something similar happen with my CMAX. Were you also getting engine stalling?
