CMAX gear shift issues

Hi, I have a 2009 Ford CMAX with a gasoline engine. The gear shift indicator is playing up. It's not possible to engage the gears sometimes, and when it does work, the gearbox slips and shifts uncleanly. I'm getting grinding noises and an error in the memory, plus the gear selection display is dead. Mileage is 58657 km. Any ideas?

Good day. This sounds remarkably similar to an issue I encountered with my previous Opel Insignia. The symptoms you describe, particularly the gear selection display malfunction coupled with shifting problems, suggest a potential sensor issue or a fault within the transmission control module. Have you checked for any error codes beyond the stored error you mentioned?

Thanks for the info. You mention the transmission control module. Was that definitely the issue with your Opel? What was the fix?

While I cannot definitively confirm it's the exact same problem, the symptoms align closely. In my case, the root cause was indeed a defective control unit. Given the complexity of modern automatic transmissions and the potential for electronic faults, I would strongly advise taking your Ford CMAX to a qualified workshop for a thorough diagnosis. They'll be able to pinpoint the issue and provide an accurate repair estimate.

Thanks, that's useful. Took it to a shop and you were right - control unit was defective. 1000€ later, it's fixed.
