CMAX immobilizer issue
Summary of the thread
A 2003 Ford CMAX with a gasoline engine is experiencing immobilizer issues, where the engine cranks but won't start or starts briefly then dies, indicating a malfunction in the anti-theft system. The problem is identified as corrupted key programming. The recommended solution is to have the key recoded by a professional workshop, which successfully resolved the issue for 45€.

Tried the spare, same problem. Just a brief glimmer of hope, then nothing. Was yours definitely a key programming problem? What did you do to fix it?

Yep, sounds identical. The key programming was corrupted. I wouldn't try to fix it yourself unless you know what you're doing. A workshop with the right equipment to recode the key is the best solution. Otherwise you will end up in a worse situation.

Took it to a local garage, they connected it, and the key programming was the problem. 45€ later, it's running smoothly again. Thanks for confirming my suspicions, saved me a lot of pointless work!

Sounds familiar. I had a similar problem with my CMAX. Same symptoms – engine refusing to cooperate. Did you try the spare key? I was wondering if it's a key issue.
