CMAX tailgate hall sensor fault

Hi, I've got a 2008 Ford CMAX with a gasoline engine, and it's throwing a weird error. The error memory keeps logging a tailgate hall sensor fault. Also, the automatic tailgate isn't opening completely, stops halfway like it's hitting something, but nothing is there. I've only clocked about 26325 km. From what I've read so far, it sounds like it could be a dodgy cable or plug connection on the sensor itself. Anyone else run into this?

Summary of the thread

A 2008 Ford CMAX is experiencing a tailgate hall sensor fault, causing the automatic tailgate to stop halfway. The issue is suspected to be due to a faulty cable or plug connection on the sensor. After checking the wiring and finding no obvious issues, a visit to the garage confirmed that the cable to the hall sensor was indeed faulty, and it was repaired for 95€.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

That's an interesting issue. I had a similar problem with my old Opel Astra, though it was the trunk latch acting up. The error memory kept showing a faulty electrical sensor. Are you sure it's not the tailgate motor itself? Maybe try checking the sensor wiring for any obvious damage or corrosion first. It’s like checking the fuses before tearing apart the engine, you know?

Thanks for the tip! I'll definitely check the wiring more closely. When you had the problem with your Opel, did the error code specifically point to the sensor, or was it more general? I'm just trying to figure out if the hall sensor fault code is a red herring.

The error code on my Astra was pretty specific about the sensor, yes. However, in the end it turned out that the sensor was fine, but the wiring leading to it wasn't. Given the symptoms and the low mileage, I reckon that a visit to the workshop will be useful. In my experience it's like trying to fix a computer issue, sometimes requires professional skills.

Thanks! After checking the wiring myself and finding nothing obvious, I took it to a garage. Turns out you were right about the wiring: the cable to the hall sensor was faulty. Cost me 95€ to repair. Appreciate the help!
