Cobalt engine power loss

I'm having trouble with my 2011 Chevrolet Cobalt, gasoline engine. It's got about 214821 km on it. Lately, I've noticed a significant reduction in engine power, and the check engine light keeps popping on. I'm thinking it might be related to the throttle valve? Has anyone else experienced this?

Summary of the thread

A 2011 Chevrolet Cobalt experienced a significant reduction in engine power and a persistent check engine light. The initial suspicion was a throttle valve issue. However, it was suggested that the problem might be a faulty accelerator pedal module, which was confirmed upon professional inspection. Replacing the defective module resolved the power loss issue, restoring the vehicle's performance.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Whoa, sounds familiar! I have a Cobalt too, and I had similar symptoms a while back. Reduced power and that dreaded check engine light. For me, it turned out to be a faulty accelerator pedal module, or at least, that's what the shop told me. Have you checked the air intake or maybe the throttle sensor itself? Fuel efficiency took a nosedive for me as well.

Thanks for the quick reply! When you say 'accelerator pedal module', is that something I could potentially diagnose myself, or is it best left to a professional? I'm reasonably handy, but I don't want to mess anything up further. Also, how much did that repair set you back?

Honestly, unless you have the diagnostic tools and a decent understanding of electronics, I'd recommend taking it to a trusted mechanic. The issue could be within the electronics of that module, which gets complicated fast. I tried to save some money by fiddling around, and it just made things worse. The replacement cost was around 265€, but prices might vary. Better safe than sorry, right?

Okay, that sounds like solid advice. I'll book it in with a local workshop then. Appreciate the help! Turns out the accelerator pedal module was indeed defective, just like you said. 265€ later, my Cobalt is running smoothly again. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!
