Colorado ABS ECM Issue
Summary of the thread
A 2016 Chevrolet Colorado is experiencing issues with the ABS light intermittently turning on and off, traction problems, and occasional ABS failure. The initial suspicion is that the ECM might be interfering with the speed signal. After scanning for diagnostic trouble codes, which were vague, it was suggested to check the wheel speed sensors and consider the possibility of a defective ECM. Ultimately, a technician confirmed the ECM was faulty, leading to its replacement.

Yeah, I scanned it, but the codes are kind of vague. They point to a general speed signal problem instead of one specific sensor. Could a bigger ECM problem cause this, like messing up how it reads the sensor data?

Yes, a defective control unit can definitely cause those symptoms. Given the mileage and the ambiguous codes, it's plausible the ECM is failing to correctly interpret the sensor data. I'd recommend getting it properly diagnosed at a workshop.

Thanks, that confirms what I was thinking about the ECM. I took it to a technician, and they said the control unit was bad. Replacing the ECM cost about 1000€. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

Check your wheel speed sensors first. A faulty sensor can cause all those symptoms. Have you scanned the ECM for diagnostic trouble codes?
