Gearbox slippage in an older Colorado, huh? Have you checked the transfer fluid level? When was the last time you changed the transfer case oil? Might be worth a look before assuming the worst.

Fluid level is fine. What viscosity is optimal for transfer case oil on this model year, given the high mileage?

Optimal viscosity is tough to nail down without more info, but with that mileage and slippage, I'd be worried about more than just the fluid. Grinding gears are expensive. I'd suggest a shop visit before you get stranded.

Confirmed, it was defective gears in the transfer case. Repair cost 330€. Thanks for the help.
