Colorado Transfer Case Limp Mode
Summary of the thread
A 2011 Chevrolet Colorado is experiencing issues with the transfer case being stuck in limp mode, causing the gearbox to slip and shift uncleanly. The problem is suspected to be related to a control module or powertrain malfunction, possibly linked to the ABS system. It is suggested to have the vehicle scanned at a workshop to identify the exact fault. The issue was resolved by clearing the ABS codes, restoring normal function without any cost.

Yeah, the traction control light does come on intermittently. Could that really put the transfer case into limp mode? Is it likely to be an expensive fix? Is it a gear selector problem?

A faulty ABS system can absolutely trigger limp mode in the transfer case. It's all interconnected with the control module. Considering the symptoms, it's best to get it scanned at a workshop. They can pinpoint the exact fault and what's needed for the repair.

Thanks for the advice! I took it to a mechanic, and you were right, it was the ABS causing the transfer case issue. They cleared the codes, and everything's back to normal. Cost me nothing!

Hmm, a slipping gearbox and limp mode on your Colorado? Sounds like the system is trying to protect itself. Have you noticed any other warning lights, maybe traction control or ABS? A fault in the ABS system can definitely cause some consequential issues with the powertrain.
