Coolant Loss Honda Amaze

My 2017 Honda Amaze, gasoline engine, has a coolant level that keeps dropping, and the check engine light is on intermittently. An error is also stored. The car has 68535 km on it. I've checked the coolant reservoir, but I can't find any obvious leaks. Could this be something serious?

Summary of the thread

A 2017 Honda Amaze is experiencing coolant loss and an intermittent check engine light, with no obvious leaks found. Possible causes include small, hard-to-spot cracks in radiator hoses or a faulty radiator cap that fails to maintain pressure. A pressure test at a workshop is recommended to diagnose the issue accurately. The problem was resolved by replacing a slightly cracked hose, restoring normal function.

I also drive a Honda Amaze, and I had a similar issue some time ago. Coolant disappearing can be tricky. Have you inspected the radiator hoses thoroughly? Sometimes they develop small cracks that are hard to spot but can cause slow leaks. Also, check the radiator cap to ensure it's sealing properly; a faulty cap won't maintain pressure, leading to coolant loss. Is there any visible coolant on the engine block?

Thanks for the quick response! I did a quick visual check of the radiator hoses, but I didn't examine them too closely. I'll take a more detailed look tomorrow. I haven't noticed any coolant on the engine block, but I'll double-check that as well. What was the cause of the coolant loss in your case? Was it also difficult to diagnose?

In my case, it turned out to be a very minor leak from one of the radiator hoses, near the engine block, that only appeared when the engine was hot and the system was under pressure. It evaporated quickly, leaving no visible trace. It took a pressure test at the workshop to pinpoint it. Given that you have a check engine light and stored error, I would suggest you have it checked by a professional as soon as possible.

Thanks so much for sharing your experience! It's very helpful to know that a seemingly small leak can cause such issues. I'll definitely take your advice and schedule a pressure test at a workshop. The garage found the source of the issue – a slightly cracked hose. They replaced it and refilled the coolant for 52€. Everything is working as expected now.
