Corolla Cruise Control Error

Hi, I'm having a weird issue with my 2008 Toyota Corolla diesel. The cruise control has suddenly stopped working. I get an error message displayed right in the speedometer, and the cruise control doesn't engage at all. I scanned it with an OBD reader, and there's an error stored. I've checked the fuses, and they seem fine. Could it be a faulty cruise control actuator or some kind of wiring problem? I'm at 160862 km and have kept up with all maintenance.

Whoa, that sounds frustrating! An error message with cruise control malfunction is never fun. I would put my money on that actuator! Since you checked the fuses, the next thing to consider (before going too deep), is inspecting the cable and plug connection of the cruise control. Is the connector maybe loose or corroded? Like wiggling a loose tooth -- sometimes it just takes a little nudge!

Thanks for the tip! When you say inspect the cable and plug, where exactly am I looking? Is there a specific location under the hood I should be focusing on, or am I tracing wires from the cruise control stalk on the steering column? Any chance you know the typical color of the wires involved, just to narrow things down?

Okay, so, I'm not a Toyota guru, but in my experience (with other makes), the actuator itself is usually mounted somewhere near the throttle body. It might be a bit buried, so grab a flashlight. Tracing back from the stalk is a good plan too, but can be laborious. About wire colors, I am not sure. However, if the plug seems fine, I suggest you take it to a mechanic. Could be the system is confused.

Just wanted to let you know – I took your advice and focused on the actuator. I found the cable was indeed loose and a bit corroded. Cleaned it up, plugged it back in firmly, cleared the error code, and bam! Cruise control is working again. Cost me 95€ in the workshop. Thanks a bunch for pointing me in the right direction!
