Corolla Engine Knocking

Hey, I'm getting some seriously annoying knocking in my 2007 Toyota Corolla's gasoline engine. Only 31k kilometers on the clock! I'm losing power, it jerks when I accelerate, and puffs out smoke sometimes. Error memory is lit up. Thinking maybe it's deposits, but I'm pulling my hair out!

I had a similar issue with my old Opel Astra, different engine of course, but the symptoms sound eerily similar. Did you check the fuel octane level? Also, could it be related to the cylinder heads? What kind of error codes are you seeing?

Fuel octane's fine, been using the usual stuff. Cylinder heads could be it, I guess. But what exactly happened with your Astra? Was it a pre-ignition problem, or something else entirely?

In my case, it was indeed a pre-ignition issue caused by carbon deposits. Considering your symptoms and the error codes, a visit to a workshop might be necessary for a thorough diagnosis and cleaning. That would be my recommendation.

Thanks for the tip! You were spot on. Took it to the shop, and yep, carbon deposits galore. Cost me 425€ to get it sorted, but the knocking's gone and she's running smooth as butter now!
