Corolla exhaust back pressure sensor issue
Summary of the thread
A 2015 Toyota Corolla owner reported a warning light and smoke during acceleration, suspecting an exhaust back pressure sensor issue. Another individual shared a similar experience with a different car, confirming that the sensor was the problem. It was advised to have the sensor diagnosed and replaced by a professional due to the complexity of the task. The owner later confirmed the sensor was defective and had it replaced by a mechanic.

Thanks for the quick reply! Was it difficult to diagnose the sensor issue? Did you replace it yourself or did you need to take it to a shop?

I had it diagnosed at a shop. I wouldn't recommend doing it yourself unless you have experience. The sensor might be difficult to reach and you need specific tools to check the readings. I recommend you go to a workshop for checking. It cost me around 250€ for a new sensor and the repair.

Okay, thanks for the advice! I'll take it to a mechanic to have it checked. Seems like the sensor is the likely culprit. The repair set me back 245€, sensor was indeed defective.

Sounds familiar. I had a similar issue with my old Opel Astra. Same symptoms: warning light and smoke. In my case, it was also the exhaust back pressure sensor. I would check the sensor first.
