Corolla hybrid fuel consumption issue
Summary of the thread
A 2022 Toyota Corolla hybrid is experiencing increased fuel consumption, engine stalling at idle, a check engine light, and smoke during acceleration. The suspected cause is a defective mass air flow (MAF) sensor. A similar issue was resolved by replacing the MAF sensor, and it is recommended to have the vehicle professionally diagnosed to confirm the problem.

Thanks for the quick reply! No, I haven't checked the air-fuel ratio specifically. What exactly did you find when you had those symptoms? Was it definitely the MAF sensor?

Yes, it was definitely the MAF sensor for me. The symptoms sound very similar. Eventually, I had to get it replaced. I'd recommend taking it to a workshop to get it properly diagnosed, just to be sure. Cost me around 365€ to get it fixed.

Great, thanks a lot for the info! I'll take it to a workshop to have the MAF sensor checked out. Knowing it was the issue for you helps a lot. I appreciate your help!

Hello! I drive a Corolla too, not sure about the exact year, but I had similar issues a while back. The check engine light was on, and the fuel economy tanked. Have you checked the air-fuel ratio? Maybe it's running too rich.
