Corolla hybrid fuel consumption issue

Hi, I have a 2022 Toyota Corolla hybrid with 78437 km on it. Recently, I've noticed higher fuel consumption, the engine stalls at idle sometimes, and the check engine light is on. Plus, there's some smoke when accelerating. I suspect it might be a defective mass air flow (MAF) meter. Any thoughts?

Hello! I drive a Corolla too, not sure about the exact year, but I had similar issues a while back. The check engine light was on, and the fuel economy tanked. Have you checked the air-fuel ratio? Maybe it's running too rich.

Thanks for the quick reply! No, I haven't checked the air-fuel ratio specifically. What exactly did you find when you had those symptoms? Was it definitely the MAF sensor?

Yes, it was definitely the MAF sensor for me. The symptoms sound very similar. Eventually, I had to get it replaced. I'd recommend taking it to a workshop to get it properly diagnosed, just to be sure. Cost me around 365€ to get it fixed.

Great, thanks a lot for the info! I'll take it to a workshop to have the MAF sensor checked out. Knowing it was the issue for you helps a lot. I appreciate your help!
