Corolla rain light sensor issues

I've got a 2017 Toyota Corolla with a gasoline engine, and I'm experiencing some weird issues with what I believe is the rain-light sensor. The error memory has a fault stored, the automatic wiping mode isn't working in the rain, automatic headlight control is gone, and even the speedometer dimming isn't functioning. To top it off, the lights are just switching on randomly. Has anyone else run into anything like this? Mileage is sitting at 26324 km. I'm wondering if it is just a faulty sensor or if there could be something else at play here.

Indeed, a malfunctioning light sensor can trigger such a cascade of issues. Have you checked the sensor itself for any visible damage or obstructions? Is the windshield clean in the sensor area?

Thanks for the quick reply! I did give the windshield a good clean, but I haven't actually examined the sensor directly. Where exactly is it located, and is there anything specific I should be looking for?

The sensor is typically behind the rearview mirror. From past experience, bubbles forming under the gel pad between the sensor and windshield are a common culprit. This disrupts the sensor's ability to 'see' properly. Consider a workshop visit for a proper diagnosis and possible sensor recalibration.

Thanks for the advice. It was indeed the bubbles under the gel pad. I took it to the workshop, and they replaced the pad and recalibrated the sensor. Cost me 62€. Everything is working as it should now.
