Corsa Diesel EGR Valve Suspected

My 2011 Vauxhall Corsa diesel is having issues. At around 20000 km, the engine has reduced power, and the check engine light is on. It smokes when accelerating, runs rough, has higher fuel consumption, and jerks. There's also a loud hissing sound when I accelerate. I think it might be the EGR valve. Anyone seen this before?

Sounds familiar. I've got a Corsa, though I can't remember what year. I had similar issues – loss of power, engine light, the lot. Have you checked for any obvious vacuum leaks? That can sometimes cause similar problems before you start ripping things apart.

Thanks for the input. I'll check for vacuum leaks. What specific symptoms made you think it was the EGR valve? Were they like mine?

Yeah, the symptoms were almost spot-on. The hissing and the smoke were the big clues for me. It could be a split hose, but with all those symptoms together, it sounds like the EGR valve is jammed. If it is indeed the EGR, I wouldn't mess about too much. Get it to a workshop; you don't want to cause any more damage.

Thanks for confirming the EGR valve issue. I went ahead with a replacement. The repair, including parts and labor, cost 355€.
