Corsa Engine Light & Power Loss: Bad Sensor Symptoms?

Hi there, looking for advice on my 2009 Vauxhall Corsa (petrol, 238k km). The car's been acting up lately, engine light is on, struggling with power, and running really rough. It jerks when I accelerate and my fuel consumption has gone through the roof. I suspect it might be the intake manifold pressure sensor, but I had a bad experience with my last mechanic and want to be sure before going in. Has anyone dealt with similar symptoms? Any recommendations for trustworthy mechanics who've fixed this issue? Would appreciate hearing about your experiences. Thanks!

I had a similar issue with my 2012 Vauxhall Astra (1.6L petrol) last summer. The symptoms matched yours exactly, check engine light, power loss, jerky acceleration, and terrible fuel economy. Took it to my regular garage where they diagnosed a faulty wiring harness connecting to the intake manifold pressure sensor. The wires had worn through and were shorting out. The mechanic showed me the damaged area, the insulation was completely worn through where the wiring rubbed against a bracket. This wasn't a hugely complex repair, but it needed proper diagnostic equipment to confirm the issue. The sensor itself was fine, just the wiring needed replacing. Fixed the problem completely, car ran smooth again and fuel consumption went back to normal. If you're near Birmingham, I can recommend Wilson's Garage on Chester Road. They specialize in Vauxhalls and diagnosed this quickly. They let me see the damaged parts and explained everything clearly. Based on your symptoms, it sounds very similar to what I experienced. Best to get it checked soon before it potentially causes other issues.

Thanks for sharing that, sounds exactly like what I'm dealing with! Really helpful to know about the wiring harness, didn't even think about that being the culprit. By the way, do you remember roughly how much you ended up paying for the repair? And has everything been running smoothly since, or did you run into any other issues? Just trying to get an idea of what I'm in for!

Hey again! Yeah, after taking my Astra to Wilson's Garage, they sorted the wiring harness for the intake manifold pressure sensor, cost me 95 Euro. Just checked my old invoice actually! It was definitely the right call, as the problem completely disappeared after they fixed it. The car's been running like a dream since then, smooth acceleration, normal fuel consumption, and no more check engine light. Honestly, such a relief! I was lucky they caught it when they did, the mechanic mentioned that letting these things go can sometimes lead to bigger problems. Been about 8 months now, and I haven't had a single issue with it since. The jerking and rough running completely stopped as soon as they replaced that damaged wiring harness. If your symptoms are similar to what I had (which they really sound like they are), you might be looking at the same fix. Hope this helps give you a better idea of what you're dealing with!

I really appreciate all your help! Just got back from getting my Corsa checked out, and you were spot on! I ended up finding a local garage that specializes in Vauxhalls, proper professionals they were. Just like your case, it was the wiring harness that was causing all the drama. They showed me where it had worn through and everything. Bill came to about 110 Euro, bit more than what you paid, but still worth every penny. The difference in how the car runs now is like night and day! No more jerking, engine light's gone, and it's back to sipping fuel like it should. Can't thank you enough for sharing your experience, saved me from running around different mechanics and probably getting overcharged. Dead chuffed I asked here first! Take care!
