Corsa Oil Pressure Warning

Thanks for the quick response! I haven't had the oil pressure tested with a mechanical gauge. I was hoping it was just the sensor, but those engine noises are making me think otherwise. If it is the oil pump, how urgent is this? Is it something I can drive on for a little while, or am I risking major engine damage? And roughly, what sort of repair cost am I looking at if it is the pump?

Okay, those engine noises definitely add urgency. Continuing to drive with low oil pressure is like running a marathon with a broken leg – you might make it a little further, but you're causing serious, potentially irreversible damage. If the oil pump is failing, you're starving the engine of lubrication, which can lead to catastrophic engine failure. As for repair cost, an oil pump replacement, including labor, can vary, but you could be looking at around 755€. Honestly, I'd strongly advise against driving it and get it checked by a professional mechanic as soon as possible.

Thanks, I appreciate the advice. I'm taking it to a local workshop tomorrow. You were spot on. Turns out it was indeed a defect in the oil pump, leading to the low oil pressure. Got it replaced, and the noises are gone, and the warning light is off. The bill came to 755€, just like you predicted. Thanks again for the help!

Hey, that sounds concerning. Low oil pressure on those Corsas can be nasty. Since you've already ruled out the simple things like oil level and a clogged filter, the oil pump is a likely culprit. However, before jumping to conclusions, has the oil pressure gauge been tested with a mechanical gauge to verify the reading from the sensor? The sensor itself could be faulty, giving you a false reading. It's like blaming the messenger before you know if the message is correct.
