Corvette Heater Defrost Fault

Alright Corvette gurus, I'm pulling my hair out! My 2002 Chevy Corvette, gasoline engine, is fogging up like crazy! The heater is barely putting out any warm air, and the error memory is showing a fault with the defrost air distribution flap. I'm guessing it's something with the HVAC unit, maybe a bad connection somewhere? I gave the usual suspect plugs a wiggle, but no luck. Anyone else battled this demon?

Summary of the thread

A 2002 Chevy Corvette is experiencing issues with the heater not producing warm air and the defrost function failing, leading to fogging. The problem is identified as a fault with the defrost air distribution flap, likely due to a bad connection in the HVAC unit. The suggested solution involves checking the cable and plug connections to the flap motor, which is a known weak point. Ultimately, a corroded connector on the flap motor was found and fixed by a professional, resolving the issue.

I had a similar issue with my Corvette a while back. Check the cable and plug connections to the flap motor itself. That's a known weak point. Are you getting any unusual noises from the dashboard when you adjust the temperature?

Good call! Where exactly is that flap motor located? I don't want to start ripping apart the dashboard panel without some guidance! And no, no strange noises that I can hear, just icy windshield!

On my car I found it easier to just take it to the workshop, as I did not want to break any more than I had already. And yes, it was a corroded connector. It's located behind the center console, fairly deep in there. If you aren't comfortable with dismantling interior trim, it's probably best to get it checked out by a professional. They'll have the proper diagnostic tools to pinpoint the issue quickly.

Took your advice and brought it to a shop. You nailed it – corroded connector on the flap motor! 95€ later, and she's blowing hot air like a champ. Thanks for the pointer; saved me a ton of grief!
