CR V fuel consumption and power loss

Hi, I'm having trouble with my 2014 Honda CR-V diesel. It's got about 61,550 km on it. Recently, I've noticed higher fuel consumption and a reduction in engine power. The check engine light is also on. I've checked the air filter and tire pressure, but no luck. Could this be related to cylinder pressure fluctuation? Has anyone else experienced this?

Summary of the thread

A 2014 Honda CR-V diesel with 61,550 km was experiencing higher fuel consumption, reduced engine power, and an illuminated check engine light. Initial checks of the air filter and tire pressure did not resolve the issue. A possible cause mentioned was cylinder pressure fluctuation, but further investigation revealed a faulty sensor causing incorrect fuel delivery adjustments. Replacing the sensor resolved the problem, restoring normal performance.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Greetings. Cylinder pressure fluctuation in a diesel engine can indeed manifest in the ways you describe. However, such a symptom is rarely a root cause. It is more often a consequential error resulting from another underlying issue. Have you observed any unusual engine knocking? Has the condition of the fuel injectors been assessed, and when was the timing belt last inspected or replaced? Furthermore, have you investigated the crankshaft or piston rings for any indications of wear or damage?

Thanks for the quick response! Engine knocking? No, I haven't noticed any knocking sounds. Fuel injectors and timing belt haven't been checked recently, so I can't say for sure. Crankshaft and piston rings... that sounds pretty serious. Where would I even start to look for problems there?

Understood. The absence of knocking is useful information. Given the potential interplay of factors and the interconnectedness of engine components, an amateur diagnosis is not advisable. The prudent course of action would be a comprehensive diagnostic assessment by a qualified technician. It is conceivable that the issues you are experiencing are interrelated, or they might be independent. A mechanic can confirm. The cost, incidentally, was 0€; it turned out that the diagnostic device had a glitch.

Okay, I appreciate the advice. I took it to a mechanic as you suggested. The issue was a faulty sensor giving incorrect readings, causing the engine management system to adjust fuel delivery incorrectly. The sensor was replaced, and everything is running smoothly now. Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction!
