CR Z Check Engine Light and Exhaust Issues
Summary of the thread
A 2016 Honda CR Z hybrid is experiencing a check engine light, rough engine performance, an exhaust leak, and a strong smell, with a suspicion of an exhaust treatment malfunction, possibly involving the lambda sensor. Another person with a similar issue suggested checking the EGR valve for clogs or jams, as it could also affect performance. Ultimately, the problem was confirmed to be a faulty lambda sensor and a small exhaust manifold leak, both of which were addressed by a professional workshop.

Thanks. Fuel economy has taken a hit, yeah. When you say "similar", do you mean the exhaust smell and potential leak too? Was it the lambda sensor in the end or the EGR valve?

The smell wasn't as strong for me, but definitely a slight fuel/exhaust type smell. Turned out to be a faulty lambda sensor throwing everything off. Made the car run rich. If you have an exhaust leak on top, could be more than one thing contributing. But yeah, get it checked by a pro; sounds like you're past basic DIY fixes.

Appreciate the insight. Booked it into the workshop. They've confirmed it's the lambda sensor, like you suspected, plus a small exhaust manifold leak. Bill's coming to 375€ all in. Thanks again for the pointers!

I had something similar with my CR Z. Check Engine light and rough running. Was there any impact on fuel economy? Could be worth checking the EGR valve isn't clogged or jammed before diving into the lambda sensor. Had a sticky one once.
