Crider engine smoke and power loss
Summary of the thread
The conversation centers around a 2020 Honda Crider experiencing engine smoke, power loss, and an illuminated check engine light. The initial suspicion is a malfunctioning crankcase ventilation valve (PCV valve), which could cause these symptoms. A possible hissing sound from the engine bay supports this diagnosis, suggesting a vacuum leak. The recommended solution is to consult a qualified technician for proper diagnostics and repair.

Thanks for the quick reply! Rough idling, not really. A hissing sound… maybe a little, hard to tell over the engine noise. So, you think it's likely the PCV valve then? Is it a big job to fix?

Considering the symptoms you've outlined, including the presence of smoke and the check engine light, coupled with the possible hissing sound, the likelihood points towards a defective PCV valve. While theoretically replaceable by oneself, given the potential impact on emissions and engine performance, consulting with a qualified technician for diagnostics and repair is advisable. The repair cost I've been quoted, when I had the same issue, was around 360€.

Appreciate the insight, that confirms my suspicions. I'll book it in with a local mechanic and get them to take a look. Thanks again for your help!

Greetings. The symptoms you describe are indeed indicative of a potential crankcase ventilation issue, also known as a PCV valve problem. I drive a Crider myself. Are you experiencing any rough idling, or noticing any unusual hissing sounds from the engine bay? A defective PCV valve can cause a vacuum leak, leading to these symptoms.
