The code is B1097-15 - "Seat Heating Element Circuit - Open or Short to Ground". I visually inspected the wiring under the seats, and everything seems connected and intact. Is there a way to test the heating element itself?

B1097-15 pretty much confirms it's the heating element. Short of tearing the seat apart and testing for continuity with a multimeter, there isn't much you can do. I'd recommend taking it to a shop, they can properly diagnose it and replace the heating mat. It's buried in the seat cushion, so it's not exactly a DIY job unless you're comfortable with upholstery.

Thanks for the info! I took it to a local shop, and you were spot on. The heating mat was indeed defective. They replaced it for 390€, and now my bum is toasty again. Cheers!

Sounds like a common issue. When you say error stored, can you be more specific? What's the exact code? Also, have you checked the wiring harness under the seat for any obvious damage or loose connections? These things often get kicked and can cause problems.
