Thanks for the reply! A cracked manifold, eh? They mentioned a possible leak, but I'm not sure how thoroughly they checked. What sort of things should I be looking for, or asking them to look for specifically, to rule that out before I shell out for a new sensor?

Well, with mine, you could hear a slight 'putt-putt' sound, especially when the engine was cold. Visually, they should be checking all the exhaust components, including the flex pipe, for any signs of cracks, rust, or soot buildup – that's usually a good indicator of a leak. Honestly, though, exhaust leaks can be tricky to pinpoint without proper equipment. Might be worth getting a second opinion from a different workshop before committing to anything.

Thanks a bunch for the advice. I took your suggestion and got a second opinion. Turns out you were spot on! It was a small crack in the exhaust manifold, causing the sensor to read incorrectly. Got it welded, replaced the sensor, and everything is running smoothly again. Cost me 265€ in the end. Really appreciate your help!

That sounds familiar. I had similar symptoms with my old Peugeot 308 – check engine light, power loss, the whole shebang. Turned out to be a dodgy heat sensor in the exhaust system, messing with the engine management. In my case, the root cause was a cracked exhaust manifold. Before you jump to replacing the sensor, have they properly checked the exhaust system for leaks?
