Crossland X Gearbox Problems

I'm having gearbox issues with my 2019 Vauxhall Crossland X, gasoline engine, 81264 km on the clock. The paddle shifters don't work at all. The gearbox slips sometimes and shifting is not clean. Also, when shifting, there are grinding noises. The paddle shifters are also very slow to respond. The gearbox seems to be stuck in emergency mode. I read the error memory and there is an error stored. I suspect it's a defective transmission control unit. Has anyone experienced something similar?

Summary of the thread

A 2019 Vauxhall Crossland X is experiencing gearbox issues, including non-functional paddle shifters, slipping, grinding noises, and slow response, with the gearbox stuck in emergency mode. The problem is suspected to be a defective transmission control unit (TCU), as indicated by a general fault error code. A similar issue in a Citroen C4 was resolved by replacing the faulty control module, and it is suggested to have the Crossland X checked by a professional, which ultimately confirmed the TCU defect and resolved the issue.

That sounds rough. I had similar transmission problems with my 2016 Citroen C4, though not exactly the same symptoms. What you describe sounds like the TCU, Transmission Control Unit, is failing. Mine was also electronic, and it caused all sorts of weird shifting behavior. Does the error code point to anything specific?

Thanks for your reply. The error code indicates a general fault in the transmission control module. What exactly happened with your Citroen?

Okay, so a general fault code isn't very helpful unfortunately. In my Citroen C4, the automatic gearbox started shifting erratically, and sometimes it wouldn't shift at all. It turned out the control module was sending incorrect signals, which messed up the whole system. I ended up taking it to a workshop, and they confirmed the module was faulty. Considering your symptoms and the error code, I'd suggest getting it checked out by a professional.

Thanks, I appreciate the advice. I took it to a workshop and you were right. The control unit was defective. The repair cost me 1000€. Now it runs like new again.
