Crossland X Preheating Lamp and Engine Smoke

Hi, I have a 2018 Vauxhall Crossland X with a diesel engine and 124713 km on the clock. Lately, the preheating lamp won't switch off, the check engine light is on, and it smokes when accelerating. Could it be a defective glow control unit? I read somewhere the cable or plug connection might be faulty. Has anyone else experienced this?

I had similar issues with my Crossland X. Preheating lamp staying on, engine light... sounds familiar. Did you run a diagnostic test? Could be a heating element issue, maybe even engine misfire. Is your vehicle stalling, especially on cold starts?

Thanks for the quick reply! I haven't run a diagnostic test yet, but I was planning to. When you had the problem, was it the same symptoms exactly? And did the engine smoke when accelerating too?

Yes, almost identical symptoms. The smoking during acceleration was definitely there. Honestly, I'd suggest getting it checked at a workshop. They can pinpoint the exact cause; could save you a lot of guesswork and potential further damage.

Thanks, I appreciate the advice. I took it to the workshop, and you were right, it was the glow control unit and a faulty cable connection! Repair cost 95€. All sorted now!
