CrosslandX engine stalls

My 2017 Vauxhall CrosslandX with a gasoline engine (103632 km) is exhibiting some issues. The engine starts poorly and stalls at idle. The check engine light is on. Suspect a defective camshaft sensor or potentially the encoder wheel on the camshafts itself. Anyone experienced similar?

I'm sorry to hear you're having trouble with your CrosslandX. Those symptoms—poor starting, stalling, and the check engine light—certainly point to a problem with ignition timing. Has the check engine light given you any specific error codes? Did you check the crankshaft sensor as well?

Thanks for your reply. I haven't checked the crankshaft sensor specifically. Regarding error codes, do you know if a basic OBD2 reader will give me the necessary information, or will it need some Vauxhall specific diagnostic tool?

A standard OBD2 reader should give you a code that can help pinpoint the issue. However, sometimes generic readers don't provide the full picture, especially with more intricate systems like camshaft and crankshaft positioning. Given the symptoms, and the possibility of a defective encoder wheel, it may be best to consult a trusted workshop for proper diagnosis to avoid any further damage.

Understood. Thanks for your advice. Took it to a local workshop. The encoder wheel on the camshafts was indeed defective. Repair cost was 695€.
